A local hospital is kicking off a new study to help doctors better handle injuries sustained from concussions.

The dangers of taking a hit to the head can include anything from dizziness to depression later on in life.

In order to catch and prevent long-term damage early in an athlete's life, Memorial Sports Medicine Institute and Axon Sports will offer free online child cognitive development studies.

Doctors say severe cases may soon be a thing of the past with the help of such studies.

Athletes ages 5 to 18 can participate.

To be eligible, they must spend 8 to 10 minutes a month on the online program, for an entire year.

If you would like to take part, call the Sports Medicine Institute at 574-217-1548 or click on The Big Red Bar.
