When it comes to creating a healthy lifestyle, going vegan can be one of the most rewarding things a person does.

It can also be one of the most challenging.

A vegan is the strictest type of vegetarian. Vegans refuse to eat any animal products or by products. Someone following this lifestyle wouldn't eat any type of meat, or products like cheese or eggs.

Whole Foods Market in Mishawaka is dedicating a night to teaching the Michiana community about vegan and vegetarian lifestyles.

It's called Extraveganza. Those attending will snack on vegan dishes, as well as hear some of the health benefits of having a plant-based diet. It's held in addition to the store's Meatless Monday events. Those events explore dishes made without meat.

"A lot of families start of by attending a Meatless Monday. Every Monday we have a meatless alternative at Whole Foods Market," said Mariah Fairweather the Marketing & Community Relations Coordinator for Whole Foods in Mishawaka.

Extraveganza takes place on May 29. It runs from 6 - 7 p.m. at tWhole Foods on Grape Rd. in Mishawaka.

"This is for people who have been vegan for ten years, or for those who are considering a Meatless Monday," Fairweather added.
