An overweight father underwent gastric bypass surgery Friday to satisfy the Missouri courts.
Gary Stocklaufer and his wife were in the process of adopting a four month old boy when a judge told him he was too overweight to be a father.
At 500 pounds, Stocklaufer was at high risk for developing health problems.
Stocklaufer said he doesn't mind getting the surgery, but does not think it is necessary.
"With having this surgery there's no guarantee that I'll get my son back, but how could a judge that would take my case or any other case in this incidence look at themselves in the mirror and say they made the right decision," said Stocklaufer.
A Dallas surgeon heard about the case and is performing Stocklaufer's weight loss surgery free of charge.
