World Health Organization releases annual report

The World Health Organization released its annual report in Geneva, Switzerland Thursday and infections diseases are spreading faster than ever.

Officials said there are many factors that contribute to the spread of diseases, including more airline passengers, rapid urbanization and the continuing destruction of the environment.

"Changes in the way humanity inhabits the planet have created multiple opportunities for new diseases to emerge and for all the diseases to resurge or become established on new continents," said Margaret Chan of the World Health Organization.

Moreover, Chan said the new report addresses acute threats to health that can cause acute economic shocks and social disruption.
