Getting tough on immunizations; courthouse becomes health clinic

Hundreds of parents have been lining up at a Maryland courthouse to get on the right side of the state law requiring that schoolchildren be vaccinated.

A letter from a circuit court judge ordered parents to appear at the courthouse today and either get their children vaccinated on the spot, or possibly risk up to 10 days in jail.

They could also provide proof of vaccination or an explanation why their kids didn't have them.

Early this morning, a line stretched outside the courthouse. Many of those in line said their children were properly immunized, but the school system had misplaced the records. They said efforts to get the paperwork straightened out beforehand had been futile.
