Veteran’s Day is being observed today, so lots of folks are taking a moment to say thanks. But, it’s the government’s responsibility to take care of these men and women every day.
Soon, vets in Elkhart County will have a place to go for their every day health care needs. In an effort to bring care closer to home, a new, VA clinic will open in Goshen next spring.
“There’s a sacred agreement. They've provided us with our freedom, in return we help take care of them,” Congressman Joe Donnelly says of the need for the new clinic.
Currently, there’s an estimated 60,000 veterans living in the area. The only VA clinic in north-central Indiana is in South Bend. The closest VA hospital is located in Fort Wayne. The new clinic should be able to provide care to 4 thousand patients a year.
