Saint Joseph will be soon be calling Harbor Village one of its own after the city council unanimously approved the Harbor Village Project at Harbor Shores on Monday night.

The project will include a hotel, condos, cottages and a marina on a 20-acre land along the golf course.

Ground breaking will likely happen within 90 days, with the 100-room hotel ready in time for the 2014 senior PGA tournament at Harbor Shores.

The $120 million dollar project will generate between $3-5 million dollars a year in property taxes and create 85 direct jobs.

Developers estimate 50 percent of the project will be local buyers with the other half coming from our neighbors on the other side of Lake Michigan.

“The other part of the market would then be Chicago based tourists and of which the doors are open for that,” said Ron Schults of Edgewater Resources.

“And those folks would use their units as much as they want. We are becoming a bedroom community of Chicago only being an hour and a half from the loop and so a lot of people have their family here during the week and they are going back and forth and are here on the weekends," he added.

There will be more meetings in the coming weeks to finalize and start the construction of the harbor village.
