A woman was sent to the hospital with internal bleeding and a head trauma after crashing her car Friday morning.

Police say Billie Jo Star Rippey, 34, was speeding on S.R. 15 just south of C.R. 126 when her 2007 Dodge Caliber veered off the road. As her car headed off the roadway officials say she lost control and crossed over and off the opposite side of the street.

Rippey struck several objects including a phone junction box, mailbox, street sign, a tree and a NIPSCO utility pole with such force that the pole snapped.

The Elkhart Co. Sherriff’s Dept. is investigating the crash further. Rippey was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital by Medflight for treatment.
