What do to if an attacker tries to harm you

St. Joseph County, Ind. As part of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, the St. Joseph County Police Dept. put on a free self defense workshop on Saturday; and on 16 Saturday Morning, we brought in an expert to give you a demonstration and helpful information that could save your life.

Don Haywood, the chief investigator of the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office, says the easiest thing for an attacker to do is distract you. For example, someone could ask you for the time and you could look down at your watch, giving them the opportunity to make a move.

Another helpful idea for women is to wear a purse on one shoulder instead of over your head so a potential attacker cannot grab the purse and drag you.
