West Nile Virus found in South Bend Mosquitos

The West Nile Virus has been found in mosquitoes in St. Joseph County.

The county health department says pools of West Nile positive mosquitoes were discovered on the east side of South Bend.

Important to note is that these are mosquitoes, not people who have tested positive.

The state health department says there have been six human cases of West Nile Virus in Indiana, including one in Fulton County.

There has been one death, but it was not in our area.

The news serves as a good reminder to protect yourself from mosquitoes by following these tips:

Avoid being outside during prime mosquito biting times from dusk to dawn if possible.

Use insect repellent on clothes and exposed skin.

Try to wear long-sleeves and long pants.

Make sure your windows and doors have screens, and that the screens are in good shape.

And use mosquito netting if you're sleeping outdoors.
