A Warsaw woman is behind bars after allegedly striking and injuring her 4-year-old with a belt.

Officials from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and the Department of Child Services responded to the 1600 block of east County Road 200 north in Warsaw yesterday to perform a home inspection.

Case workers were interviewing 26-year-old Sherena Michele Harris, when they found bruises on her 4-year-old daughter.

Harris was questioned about the injuries and brought to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department for further questioning. She later admitted to striking her daughter, causing the injuries, as well as taping her daughter's mouth shut.

Harris is facing charges of felony battery resulting in bodily injury to a victim under the age of 14-years-old, as well as felony neglect of a dependent.

She is currently being held on a $2,000 bond in the Kosciusko County Jail.
