Wanted sex offender surrenders himself

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. - A wanted sex offender, who failed to register, surrendered himself on Friday to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

James W. Adams, 31, is being held in the LaPorte County Jail on $7,500 bond.

Adams is scheduled to appear in court.

In 2000, Adams was convicted in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin of 3rd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. He was convicted again in 2001, of 2nd Degree of Sexual Assault of a Child. Based on these convictions, Adams is required to identify as an Offender Against Children for the rest of his life.

Adams first registered in LaPorte County back in 2009. In October of last year, Adams notified police that he was homeless. Since then, he has been registering as homeless every seven days with police, as required by Indiana Code. He last registered in mid-February of 2014.
