Walk held at Concord Mall to raise money for local woman

Elkhart County, Ind. Becoming enrolled in the new health care system is a mess and for one local woman registering or even getting insurance is more difficult. But Sunday, dozens of people came to the rescue.

Johanna Johnston was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier this year.

Johanna works part time which does not qualify for insurance and is having difficulty registering on the Obamacare website.

Friends, family and acquaintances walked around Concord Mall after hours to help the recent college grad raise money for her medical bills. A silent auction and bake sale helped collect money for the cause.

Despite the unfortunate timing, her spirit is high.

"What we fear in life is losing our happiness,” says fundraiser recipient Johanna Johnston. “The reason we're afraid of being sick is because it will make us unhappy or uncomfortable or something like that. I realized from the beginning, if it can't take my happiness it can't take anything.”

Our very own Gary Sieber emceed Sunday night's event.
