Dozens rallied behind a Benton Harbor boy on Sunday as he recovers from an accident that happened nearly two weeks ago.

Family, friends and members of the community showed their support for Kenneth Lewis during a candlelight vigil held outside the Arts and Communications Academy along Napier Avenue.

The 12 year-old boy suffered severe head injuries on June 5 when he stepped into the side of a moving cement truck a few blocks from his school.

Lewis was then flown to a St. Joseph Hospital and is now being treated at a Kalamazoo medical center for massive head trauma.

“Brother Kenny was involved in an accident here near the school but thankfully he's on a good road of recovery at this present time,” said Pastor Michael Robinson of Benton Harbor. “And our gathering here tonight is to extend and broaden our faith and to be a support a faith support to his mom and to his family."

Lewis’s family says that his condition has been improving each day.
