UPDATE: Two bodies found in Elkhart connected

Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says the two bodies found in parking lots this past weekend were indeed connected.

Police first found the body of Debbie McDowell in the parking lot of the old American Countryside Farmer's Market on County Road 26, south of Elkhart.

They later found the body of Ervin Howard about four and a half miles away, at Poor Tony's Restaurant on Franklin Street.

During the investigation, police were able to determine that Howard was responsible for McDowell's death. Howard called 911 and admitted to shooting McDowell.

Police have been able to confirm that Howard and McDowell knew one another, but the extent or type of their relationship remains unknown.
