An Illinois woman who was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash on Thursday in Kosciusko County has died.
It happened just before noon on U.S. 30, near County Road 450 East, west of Pierceton.
Witnesses tell police that 44-year-old Thomas Harwood of Bourbonnais, Illinois and his wife, 39-year-old Paula, were thrown from their motorcycle after the rear tire blew out causing the bike to skid and then flip.
Paula was apparently struck by the motorcycle as it rolled.
She was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition with a severe head injury, and died Thursday afternoon just hours after the crash.
Thomas Hardwood is a police officer who was driving the motorcycle and was seriously hurt as he hit the pavement.
He was listed in serious but stable condition early this morning.
Neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and police do not believe alcohol was a factor.
Also, a Warsaw man was killed last night after his car struck a utility pole.
It happened around 9 o'clock on County Road 350 West just north of County Road 200 North.
A witness tells police that Owens was driving north and lost control of his car. He over-corrected after going over a small hill and slid off the road into a utility pole.
Owens had been wearing his seatbelt, but because of the force of the impact, he was partially ejected from the car.
Police don't believe alcohol was a factor. The accident remains under investigation.
