New data out of Elkhart County suggests that elementary students there are being busted for some very adult crimes.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, a report from the Indiana Department of Education found that 11 out of 33 elementary schools in Elkhart County suspended or expelled students during the 2011-2012 school year for having drugs, alcohol or weapons.

Six of the 11 are in the Elkhart Community School District.

Officials say kids have been caught with everything from marijuana buds to wine. However they say most of the violations involve weapons such as small pocket or butter knives.
