Indiana Michigan Power reports power has been restored to most of its customers in the Michiana area.

A report released by the company at 10 p.m. said that power had been restored to 12,100 of the estimated 13,000 I&M customers who lost power. Crews are working to restore service by Monday night to the remaining 500 customers in LaPorte, St. Joseph, Delaware and Wells counties, and 400 customers in Southwest Michigan.

Major utilities across Indiana reported more than 40,000 customers without electricity as of 11:15 a.m. EDT Sunday. They included more than 20,000 customers of Indianapolis Power and Light and about 16,000 customers of Northern Indiana Public Service Co.

NIPSCO says storms packing winds as high as 70 mph downed power lines, blew out transformers and broke utility poles.

The National Weather Service says portions of central Indiana received more than 1.5 inches of rain.
