Thousands of suspended licenses restored
Thousands of Hoosiers have re-validated licenses, following a court case victory for the American Civil Liberties Union.
In 2010 the Bureau of Motor Vehicles began suspending licenses under the "previously uninsured motorist registry." According to the ACLU, it was unlawful because they were suspending licenses of people who did not own cars, and therefore did not need to carry insurance.
The law is now stayed until 2013, meaning the BMV can't make any new suspensions.
Just to be safe, you can check your driver and insurance status on the BMV website.
