UPDATE: IU South Bend closes for day, residents without power

Nearly 300 customers are still without power in St. Joseph County Wednesday night.

Indiana Michigan Power continues to report a large number of people without power around Mishawaka Ave.

IU South Bend's campus is also without power and has closed for the day and due to resume.

The interruption happened just before 1 pm.

Contractors were working inside a substation when they accidentally hit an underground line. I&M is working to restore power now and transfer customers to another power source while the line is repaired.

An estimated restoration time has not been given.

Decision about Elkhart Armory's future delayed
