Teen injured after flipping ATV

A helmet and goggles are being credited with saving the life of a Kosciusko County teenager, after he wrecked his ATV, and survived.

The crash happened around 3:30 Friday afternoon in the 400 block of East County Road 700 south in Claypool.

Mason Johnson, 13, was riding his four-wheeler through his yard when he tried to jump a ramp and ended up nose-diving straight into the ground. The ATV flipped over throwing the teen from the vehicle.

Johnson's head hit the ground, but DNR officers say the helmet and goggles he was wearing dramatically lessened his injuries, and possibly even saved his life.

The teen suffered a concussion and has since been transferred to a Fort Wayne hospital for further tests and treatment.
