A South Bend teenager has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting last weekend.
Damontray Lovelady, 17, is accused of murder and carrying a handgun without a permit.
The shooting on Sunday in the 3,100 block of West Washington St. left Jhaelon Johnson, 16, dead from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Five others were injured by gunshots to their legs and hands.
According to court documents, witnesses say some teenagers were walking along Washington St. when a car, allegedly driven by Lovelady, slowed down next to them.
The two groups were exchanging words, when Lovelady reportedly opened fire and then sped off.
Lovelady told investigators that he was shot in the hand during the incident and was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injury.
He is currently being held without bond at the St. Joseph county jail, and is expected to be arraigned in court on Friday.
