Bendix Family Physicians is hosting its first community health fair on Friday, offering community members free screenings, blood pressure checks and activities for the kids.
Organizers say the event is a learning opportunity, particularly for those who are uninsured. At least 30 community organizations will be at the Summer Splash Health Fair in an exhibition style.
Family fun activities include zumba demonstrations, bouncy houses, a jump rope contest, helathy food preparation demonstrations, face-painting, food, giveaways, massage therapy and free education classes on new Healthcare Insurance Plans.
Bendix Family Physicians have also partnered with Integrated Billing Solutions and Hailey Campbell to offer free seminars on the upcoming changes to health care. The Affordable Healthcare Act takes affect in October.
"One of our missions here at Bendix is to provide not just access to services within our facility as far as primary health care, but to also offer services outside of our office within the community to provide a better quality of life for patients that we serve," said Solenia Carr, executive director of Community Health Partners of South Bend.
The event goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1010 N. Bendix Dr. in South Bend.
