It has been about two and a half years since the popular Elkhart landmark, the Ox Bow Tower, was burned down in what was believed to be an arson fire. Now, just in time for Christmas, some students from Concord Ox Bow Elementary School are helping in the ongoing effort to bring it back.
According to the Elkhart Truth, the Elkhart County Parks department received a check for $1,035.95 from the elementary school to be donated to the Ox Bow Park Tower Fund.
Students would spend their field day walking to the tower at the end of each school year, their donation is an effort to restore that tradition.
To date the Concord Ox Bow Elementary School has worked on raising over $2,800 for the tower fund through various fundraising activities such as the Fuel Your Sole 5K.
Currently, the fund has raised $65,000, less than half way to their goal of $182,000 to rebuild a steel-based tower.
