Nearly 5,000 elementary and middle school students gathered at the Joyce Athletic and Convocation Center on the Notre Dame campus Tuesday for the annual All-Schools Mass.
21 area Catholic schools celebrated the 21st All-Schools Mass, the theme of this year’s celebration was “Catholic schools raise the standards.”
Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese was in attendance. He focused his message on vocations for Catholic youth, but also paid tribute to the recent passing of Bishop Emeritus John M. D’Arcy who died on Sunday.
"I had mixed emotions because at times during the mass I was thinking of Bishop D’Arcy and missing him and feeling sadness," Bishop Rhoades said. "On the other side, there was the joy of all the young people.”
Students served as altar servers, gift bearers, readers, and musicians.
