Family says body found in Starke County ditch is missing 26-year-old

The family of a man who's been missing for nearly two weeks says his body was found in a ditch in rural Starke County Monday afternoon.

26-year-old Isaiah Lincoln Grounds was last seen Dec. 10 at the Grovertown Truck Stop.

Isaiah's car was found wrecked near the intersection of 300 N and 1100 E, with blood smeared inside and outside on the vehicle. But, there was no sign of him.

"When Isaiah disappeared, we knew that when we found him, we were going to find his body," said Isaiah's brother, Shane Grounds. "That was so much out of character that, despite what everybody else said, we knew that that was it."

Shane says they were initially told Isaiah was probably in hiding because he feared he was in trouble with the law. But, the family never believed that story. They pushed law enforcement, saying they felt the disappearance was suspicious.

Isaiah's bank account hadn't been touched since Dec. 10.

"This is not Isaiah's demeanor, just to leave his mom," said Isaiah's aunt, Gretchen Worlay. "He is her primary caretaker."

Search and rescue dogs were called to Starke County last week to help try and locate the missing man. But, they turned up no clues.

Worlay says family and friends did some searching of their own, expecting the worst. On Monday afternoon, she says family friends were searching for Grounds on horseback and found his body in a ditch near the intersection of 300 N and 11000 E -- less than a mile from where his car was found earlier this month.

While police haven't confirmed the body is Isaiah, family members say the clothing matches the description of what he was last seen wearing.

They're hopeful the grim discovery will lead to answers.

"There is a basic theory that everybody pretty much believes that involves foul play," Shane said.

The coroner was called to the scene Monday night, but no details were released. An autopsy is expected later this week.
