St. Vincent De Paul Society began its two-day charity event

The St. Vincent De Paul Society began its two-day charity event Friday.

Friday they opened the doors to their Toy Shop located at their Ardmore Trail facility. More than 900 families will receive gifts and food from the organization over the next couple of days.

In past years, the society had volunteers deliver baskets of food and toys to the hundreds of families around St. Joseph County, but this year was different.

“This year we thought that we would be able to provide the families with the opportunity to shop for their own toys instead of one of our volunteers putting together a toy basket,” says the Assistant Director of Programs, St. Vincent De Paul Society Christy Rowing. “Our whole philosophy through the process was there is dignity in choice, and so by allowing the people have a more retail oriented experience in choosing their own toys we were able to provide a different level of service to our clients.”

The program will continue Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. And Santa will be there from eleven to one.
