St. Joseph County Republicans weigh in on local trustee troubles

St. Joseph County Republicans Thursday were quick to weigh in on the latest local trustee troubles.

A state audit accuses Olive Township Trustee John Michalski of withdrawing money from the township account. The withdrawals were from casino based ATM's in Michigan City, Hammond, and Minnesota. Michalski is a Democrat.

“You know another elected Democrat official has fallen way short of the expectations of St. Joseph County and like I said either its incompetence,” said Dr. Deb Fleming the St. Joseph County Republican Chairperson. “They're corrupt of they're ignorant and again none of those are what we need in St. Joseph County.”

County Republicans also called upon Indiana's Attorney General to file a civil suit against former Penn Township Trustee Jeff Dean.

Dean was sentenced earlier this week to three months in jail for official misconduct on the job, but the sentence did not include restitution for Penn Township taxpayers.
