If you still need to pick up a present for the family pet, the St. Joseph County Humane Society might just have what you're looking for.
This weekend, they're hosting their Annual Holiday Open House and Christmas Bazaar at their facility on Grape Road in Mishawaka.
Baked goods, Christmas items and pet products like toys, collars and leashes are all for sale, and Santa will be there to take photos with the kids.
But the main goal of the fundraiser is to find forever homes for the more than 150 dogs, cats and other animals up for adoption at the shelter.
“Sometimes what will happen, because everybody's really busy over the holidays, we actually see a little bit of a slump in adoptions,” says Genny Genny Carlson Outreach Coordinator, Humane Society of St. Joseph Co. “But then it really starts picking back up right after the holidays. So we're trying to get everybody a home for the holidays, so that way they don't have to stay at the shelter.”
If you missed it Friday, the holiday open house is going on again Saturday from noon to 5:30 p.m.
Organizers say they're in need of dog and cat food for their animals at the shelter, and are encouraging anyone who plans on stopping by to bring a bag or two along to donate.
