A daredevil rodent is to blame for an accident that injured a local motorcyclist.
South Bend police say that a man, 74, was driving westbound on Edison near State Rd. 23 when a squirrel ran in front of his car.
In an effort to spare that animal's life, officers say the man slammed on his brakes, leaving no time for a following motorcyclist to do the same.
The man on that bike, 26, was thrown to the pavement, leaving some cuts and scrapes to his arms and legs.
As for the squirrel, police say it faired the best, getting-off scott free.
