The South Bend Police Department is hosting a grand opening of the downtown sub-station Thursday.
The sub-station is located at 119 S. Michigan Street, across from the South Bend Chocolate Cafe.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg and South Bend Police Chief Chuck Hurley will participate in Thursday's grand opening.
The mayor says the building will promote increased safety at downtown events.
The police will pay about $10,000 a year in rent on the downtown storefront.
