April 30th is recognized as International Jazz Day. Over 170 countries are taking part in the celebration around the world, as a way to bring together communities, schools, artists, academics and jazz enthusiasts. The international art form (jazz) is a way to promote peace, dialogue and diversity between communities around the world.
South Bend is the only location in Northern Indiana recognizing the special day. It's the people at The Music Village organizing the free event for the public to enjoy.
The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the Music Village. People are encouraged to participate and learn during an open forum and panel discussion, and also through music and dance lessons, poetry reading and a jam session. Organizers hope the event brings in a diverse crowd of both members from the jazz community as well as those who may not know anything about the music. Their hope is to bring together people from throughout the area with a common theme of music.
