South Bend student dies at Vincennes Univ.

VINCENNES, Ind. - Preliminary findings of a medical examination support a previous report of the Vincennes City Police Department that foul play did not play a role in the death of a Vincennes University student Saturday night at an off-campus apartment. The autopsy was conducted Sunday afternoon.

The investigation continues pending a final report by the medical examiner and physical evidence examination by the Indiana State Police. Authorities consider this an isolated incident.

According to an initial crime scene report Sunday at 3:30 a.m. issued by the Vincennes Police Department, at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday night, Malcom Jamar Stalling, 22, of South Bend, was found unresponsive by his returning roommate near the front door of his residence, at 610 N. Second Street.

Stalling was later pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Vincennes City Police investigators were assisted by the Vincennes University Police Department, and the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division, and crime scene technicians.

According to VU officials, counseling services are being made available to the University community through the VU Counseling Services Office.
