A South Bend man will spend 32 months behind bars for a fire that destroyed the Niles FOP building.

That's according to our reporting partners at the Herald Palladium.

26-year-old Gary Lee Nellans was sentenced on two counts of arson and two counts of unlawful driving away of a vehicle.

Nellans told police he and a friend went out to steal items from parked cars back on March 13th.

The two did end up stealing cars when they found two with the keys left inside.

The second stolen car was set on fire and crashed into the FOP building.

Nellans' friend, 19-year-old Kyle Kelley was sentenced to 66 months behind bars because he already has seven other felony convictions.
