South Bend man pleads guilty to murder of teen

A South Bend man has pleaded guilty to murder in connection with the death of a teenager in September 2012.

On September 16, 2012, police found 16-year-old Jhaelon Johnson lying on the lawn in the 3100 block of Washington with a gunshot wound. Autopsy results confirmed Johnson died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Two others were injured by gunshots to their legs.

18-year-old Damontray Lovelady was in court Tuesday for a record date. Lovelady pleaded guilty to murder.

Lovelady also admitted to violating his probation and plead guilty to Carrying a Handgun Without a License, a class A misdemeanor. He was sentenced to one year suspended and one year of probation. The murder of Johnson took place during Lovelady's probation.

Sentencing for both cases is set for May 21, 2013.
