SOUTH BEND, Ind. South Bend's Layman Chapel CME Church was rocking with praise and thanks in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Sunday evening.

Some special guests were in attendance at this year's 24th annual Commemoration Service, including Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

He and other members danced and sang in honor of one of the American icons.

The group reflected on King's contributions and beliefs, and the impact he has had upon the South Bend community.

"Our struggles continue,” said Buttigieg. “We got our work cut out for us and that struggle goes on, but Dr. King called on us also to do to it in the spirit of togetherness, to be in one body even though we may not always be in one mind. It was Dr. King who taught us that there was not evil in good people, it was just people with evil and good things in us."

If you'd like to take part in Martin Luther King Jr. Day festivities on Monday, there are events being held all day.

Buttigieg will be at the community service recognition breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Century Center.

Then, later in the day, there will be a Traditional Memorial March to the Century Center.
