South Bend is going green this weekend but we're not talking about the environment. The city is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day a little early.
A new event kicked off the Saturday festivites. South Bend held its first Leprechaun Chase on Race. Dozens of runners gathered at Howard Park on Saturday morning to complete the race.
After that, floats made their way through the streets of downtown as part of the St. Patrick's Day parade. The parade started at 11 a.m.
The parade starts at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Frances Street and ends right by Seitz Park. Several of the entries will include music or dance performances.
The parade will be immediately followed by the greening of the east race, typically around noon. City leaders will pour gallons of environmentally-safe green dye into the river in honor of the holiday.
