The City of South Bend is sending help to the East Coast with more help needed to assist the victims of Sandy.

On Sunday firefighters from the South Bend Fire Department left for Atlantic City, New Jersey and Ocean City, Maryland to help first responders start recovery efforts from the damage.

The state of New Jersey made the request for help for a task force to assist with a number of emergency response calls. The Fire Department sent an ambulance and will provide EMS support. This crew will remain in New Jersey until the end of this week.

Another three firefighters were sent to Maryland to serve as an all hazards incident management team after a request by the state. This crew is expected to stay until November 11.
