The anticipation continues to build for some Michiana residents because one week from Wednesday the new Whole Foods Market in Mishawaka will be open.
One of the team leaders says that they received more than 1,000 applications to fill more than 80 jobs with Michiana residents.
Employees continue to work to make everything perfect for the opening, but it's the attention to detail that will make this store unique.
The parking lot outside the new Whole Foods in Mishawaka was packed Wednesday but not because of customers.
In fact, it was packed with employees preparing for the grand opening.
“We have team members in the store still completing their trainings. We have support people making sure our shelves are fully stocked for our customers on April 10th,” says marketing specialist, Mariah Fairweather.
They say it’s that focus on customers that’s key.
“The one thing that I’d like to point out that sets us apart is the knowledge that we give to the customers,” says team leader, Clark Barnett, “it's the care that we have in the retail departments that set us apart from other retailers. The way that we stack our apples, having them all go one direction, not just dumping them all out on the table, calling the produce, making sure that there is not any bruised apples out there, we don't leave anything like that out on the tables.”
And they built it all with Michiana in mind.
From the foods they sell,
“We had a local vender fair and we were able to bring in over 30 local vendors,” Barnett continues.
To the decorations lining the walls,
“They will see familiar things like Amish wagon wheels and the St. Joseph river,” says Fairweather.
To the tiny details one may have never noticed showing just how eco-friendly this place really is.
Like the wood and card board signs, the reusable chalk boards or the realization that there are no plastic bags in sight.
The grand opening is next Wednesday, April 10th.
There will be a bread breaking ceremony around 8:45 a.m. and the store is officially open to the public at 9 a.m.
