Six people were injured in rollover accident in Wayne Saturday afternoon.
The Cass Co. Sheriff’s office investigated the 3 p.m. crash involving two vehicles on M 51 near Swamp St.
Officials say Roger Kirksey, 49, of Niles was driving south on M 51 with three passengers in tow when he believes he fell asleep at the wheel. Kirksey lost control and crossed the center line of M 51, colliding head on with a car driving in the opposite direction. His car rolled over, and one of his passengers, Donna McAbee, 36, was ejected from inside.
Airbags deployed in both cars, and officials say passengers in the front seats were wearing seat belts, as was the child riding in the southbound car. Both Kirksey and the driver of the northbound vehicle, Michelle Rozmarynowski, 37, of South Bend, had to be extricated from their vehicles and taken to the hospital after the crash.
Kirksey’s other two passengers Dalton Kirksey, 18, and a juvenile, along with the woman’s passenger, Thomas Rozmarynowski, 41, of South Bend, were taken to local hospitals to be treated for injuries as well.
