It was music instead of sports cheers coming from the Cove Saturday morning. While there might still be snow on the ground, the Silver Hawks are gearing up for opening day.
Finding talented people to sing the national anthem at each home game is all part of the prep. A steady line of people waited it out to get their chance at the limelight.
Each musical hopeful sang the patriotic tune in front of team management, and around 35 to 45 people will be chosen.
“When we came last year we did something out at the mall,” explains Silver Hawks President Joe Hart. “This year we wanted to do it at the ballpark. Last year we had the renovations so it was hard to do, but what better way to do it than open up the ballpark and have people come on out.”
Those picked to belt out the national anthem will be notified late next week. Opening day at the Cove is April 4.
