PONTIAC, Mich.--- Authorities in suburban Detroit say they have broken up a shoplifting ring and recovered more than $3 million in merchandise.

The office of Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard (BOO’-shard) announced the results of the investigation on Wednesday.

The sheriff’s department says participants in the ring were stealing as much as $15,000 worth of goods per day in southeastern Michigan.

The Oakland Press says authorities have made five arrests in the case.

At a news conference Wednesday in Pontiac, Bouchard said the “the scope and size” of the operation is “amazing.”

Authorities say investigators recovered merchandise they think was stolen from CVS, Walgreens, Victoria’s Secret among multiple retailers.

They say the merchandise was taken to a warehouse in Hazel Park and sold on Amazon, eBay and other online retailers.
