Several great players wrapped up their tenure at Notre Dame playing with the Irish in the BCS National Championship - among them, senior tight end and co-captain Tyler Eifert.

Eifert will likely be a first-round draft pick for the NFL, leaving the Irish after one of the best seasons in Notre Dame’s history.

“It’s tough, but I couldn’t be more proud of the senior class and the way that we’ve handled our four years here,” Eifert says. “Obviously it didn’t end the way we’d have liked it to, but there’s no doubt that we put a lot of hard work in and made a lot of progress for this school.”

Defensive co-captain Kapron Lewis-Moore sat out the second half of his final game with the Irish after suffering a potentially serious leg injury near the end of the second quarter.

The defensive end says it was a disappointing end to what he feels is one of the best years he’s had at Notre Dame. He says playing for the title was “a fairytale,” and he’s not finished yet.

“I’m a fighter,” he says. “I’m going to come back from this, and you’ll hopefully see me playing sometime soon.”

Few people have been a part of the Notre Dame football program longer than hometown favorite Braxton Cave. The senior center committed to the Irish nearly six years ago, and now it’s all over.

“It’s definitely not the way we wanted to go out, but we played hard,” he says. “It just wasn’t good enough.”

Cave looks forward to the future though, and the opportunity to play next to some of his teammates again. He says he’s confident in the ability of the younger players to uphold the standards set by senior leaders in this historic season.

The Penn High School graduate says it was an incredible experience to play for his hometown teams in the BCS National Championship, no matter the outcome.

“I’m so thankful for the fans who have always been in my corner on this journey, through all the ups and downs,” Cave says.
