Indiana Democrat Joe Donnelly was among the 81 senators who voted in favor of the bill reopening the government and extending spending levels; but it is only temporary.
So the question is, will we face another potential stalemate when that runs out?
The senator joined Tricia Sloma on 16 Morning News on Friday to talk about the ongoing issue.
"I was part of the group of 14 members, half republican and half democrat, that put the framework together for the final agreement," Donnelly said. "It's certainly not perfect, but it moves us forward and puts us in a position to have what we hope is long term success."
We also asked the senator about restoring trust with the American people.
"You just have to earn it every day, by doing what is common sense. I have a sign in my office that says Hoosier Common Sense," Donnelly said. "And the people of Indiana sent me there precisely to forget about politics, work in the middle, and do what's right for the country, and that's what I try to do every day."
