Scammers are taking advantage of the recent storm damage in Michiana.
The Better Business Bureau of Northern Indiana is warning people to watch out for out-of-town contractors who may try to con them out of their money.
These so called Storm Chasers may not have a proper license for your area and may offer quick fixes or make big promises that they can not deliver. So residents should always check to see if they are licensed first.
Also, it's a good idea to get several quotes from contractors and insist payments be made to the company, not an individual.
Paying for the job in advance is not a good idea. Be leery of contractors who demand full or half payment up front.
Paying by credit card is a good idea because that may give you additional protection if there is a problem.
Always be sure to get a written contract.
