Scam Alert: Free federal grant offer

People are receiving calls that they're eligible for a free federal grant but the Better Business Bureau warns; it’s a scam. The person on the other end just wants to take your money.

Dreama Jensen of the BBB says the caller will say you've been selected to receive a grant of about $8,400; but you have to send $408 dollars to be used for needy kids in India plus another $499 fee.

And they'll want you to send it via pre-paid credit card.

"Once that money has been sent, once those green cards have been sent, that money cannot be recouped,” said Jensen. “The cards cannot be canceled, it's the same as cash, the money is gone, and all that you can do at this point is simply to write it off as a lesson learned.”

If you receive solicitations like this or have any doubts about what you might think is a scam, be cautious and call the Better Business Bureau.
