Scam Alert: Fake Publisher's Clearinghouse calls

An old scam has begun to resurface in the Hoosier state.

Thieves are calling people, claiming they have placed second or third in the Publisher's Clearinghouse sweepstakes, and won hundreds of thousands of dollars.

They're asked to wire money via Western Union to cover taxes and fees; but it's all a trap. You won't get your money back and you won't get any winnings.

The most recent calls received in southwestern Indiana originated from an 876 area code, which is Jamaica.

And keep in mind, officials say the actual Publisher's Clearinghouse winners are never contacted by phone nor do they have to pay any money up front to receive the cash prize.
