Family and friends continue to rally around Sarah Crane, a 15-year-old Elkhart resident who continues her battle against cancer.
Thursday, Sarah’s supporters met around 6 p.m. in Elkhart Memorial High School's stadium all to capture one moment meant to provide Sarah with support as she continues to fight.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, this picture will be worth a thousand words of support, encouragement and love for Crane.
“July 16th is when we first found out that she was diagnosed with cancer and at first it started out with her back pain and then she had surgery, then we got tests back finding out she did have cancer and our lives have changed a lot since then,” explains Sarah’s sister, Jenna Crane. “I mean, I can only imagine how much it hurts her not to run and hang with friends like she used to.”
Crane continues her fight against cancer but she's not alone. To prove it, more than 125 people came out in their purple Sarah Strong t-shirts Thursday to take a picture.
“It almost brings tears to my eyes. I mean, every time I see a large group of supporters like that, I mean, how that cannot make your heart happy. There’s just no words to describe it,” says family friend Sherry Auker.
“We really want to blow it up and have it framed and give it to her and her family. We want it presented to them so they can have that as a sign of support and encouragement. We just want her to know that we are fighting with her and that she is not alone in this,” says supporter Ali Hammond.
If you did not make if to this event but you want to help support Sarah, you can go to the Sarah Strong website to buy a t-shirt, or you can go to one of their upcoming events.
They have a Drive for Your School event coming up this Saturday. It is at Elkhart Memorial High School and runs from 8 a.m. to 2p.m. It’s an event where you test drive a Ford vehicle and they donate money to the Crane family.
They have a Harley Davidson event on October 12. For more information on that you can call Hoosier Harley Davidson and a Sarah Strong run in March.
