We received calls from multiple Michiana residents Tuesday concerning two different phone scams that are hitting our area.

In the first scam, a person claiming to be with the IRS warns that their intended victim is behind on taxes. Unless the person pays thousands of dollars right away, they're told that the local police will be called.

The South Bend resident who received this call says the caller's area code was 202.

We also received a call from a man in Niles who said he was targeted by a phone scam Tuesday. The caller told him that he had won a prize, but that he would have to send money to the company to claim his winnings.

That call came from the 206 area code.

In both cases, the callers were very persistent and insisted that they weren't scammers. With the IRS scam, the caller threatened that police would arrive within the hour if the intended victim didn't pay.
