SOUTH BEND A man was found dead in his car Wednesday night, after suffering several gun shot wounds to the face.

The shots were fired through the driver side window just after 11p.m. It happened in the 300 block of N Sunnyside Avenue on South Bend's east side.

The car was stopped on the side of the road, facing north, but it was still running when officers arrived on the scene.

At this time, police do not have any suspects.

County Metro identified the victim as Julio Ceasar Santos, 32. They say Ceasar was found in a silver or gray late-model Taurus with a paper license plate.

Questions still linger about where the victim parked in the neighborhood waiting for someone or if he pulled over while passing through?

Neighbors say they believe the crime is not tied to the area and still feel safe.

“This is a neighborhood where I grew up and I was close to everything,” says Jim Reeder. “I was very surprised to hear that something like this could happen in this vicinity here.”

Anyone who knows Ceasar or knows anything about the crime should contact Metro Homicide at (574) 235-5009.

An autopsy is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Thursday.
